Hedging & pruning

Overgrown hedges brought back to a shape, then kept there — which is far less work than rescuing them again in two years.

Eamon trimming a row of clipped golden shrubs with a long-reach hedge trimmer in front of a Canberra house.

What that actually involves

  • Hedges squared up or reshaped, with the lines kept true
  • Shrubs and ornamentals pruned for shape and airflow
  • Small trees pruned where they are not protected
  • Everything raked up and the site left clean

Worth knowing before you ask

Larger trees in the ACT are often protected. A tree 8m or more tall, 8m or more across, or a metre round the trunk at chest height is a regulated tree under the Urban Forest Act 2023, and removing it or taking off a limb 100mm or thicker needs ACT Government approval first. GM&M will tell you where a tree stands before quoting, rather than after. They do not do tree removal or lopping.

A job like this one

A brick house driveway crowded on both sides by overgrown, shapeless shrubs.
The same driveway after hedging, with the shrubs clipped into neat rounded forms.
