Canberra & the ACT

Let’s get your
garden back.

Garden Makeovers & Maintenance is Eamon and Duni — a Canberra family who mow, mulch, hedge, prune and tidy gardens right across the ACT. Come every fortnight or just once, to get on top of it.

The quote is free. Easiest thing is to text us a photo of the problem.

Who actually turns up

A family business, in the ordinary sense of it.

Eamon and Duni run Garden Makeovers & Maintenance between the two of them, with their small son Otto turning up to supervise more often than is strictly useful. It is Eamon at your gate most weeks.

That matters more than it sounds. Handing over a key or a side gate means letting someone onto your property while you are at work, month after month. The thing worth knowing about them is not that they can use a hedge trimmer — it is that they do what they said, on the day they said it, for the price they said.

  • They turn up when they said

“He arrives on time and just gets on with the work.” — David B.

  • They ask before they start

“Eamon always asks me what I want doing for each visit.” — David B.

  • No invented extras

“Without overcharging you for so called ‘extra work’.” — Amith A.

What we do

Regular upkeep, or the big tidy that gets it back under control.

Most gardens need one of two things: someone to keep on top of it, or someone to rescue it once. GM&M do both, and you are not signing up to anything by asking.

Two things we will always tell you about

Big trees in the ACT are often protected. If a tree is 8m tall, 8m across, or a metre round the trunk, removing it or taking a serious limb off needs ACT Government approval first — so we will say so before we quote, rather than after. And we do not spray herbicides or treat pests; weeding here is done by hand, and mulch does the rest.

Before & after

Real jobs, on houses that look like everyone else’s.

Drag the handle to see the change. These are GM&M’s own photos from their own jobs around Canberra.

The same front lawn cleared of leaves, mown, with the grass visible again.
A front lawn buried under a thick layer of fallen autumn leaves, with a ute parked at the kerb.
BeforeAfter

An autumn clean-up in a leafy street

Their words: “if your yard's looking more ‘forest floor’ than front lawn.”

The same bed after work, with dark mulch laid, edges cut in and the shrubs tidied.
A patchy garden bed beside a lawn, with bare soil and straggling shrubs against a fence.
BeforeAfter

A tired front bed, rebuilt and mulched

Fresh mulch, edges redefined, plants given room.

The same driveway after hedging, the shrubs clipped into neat rounded forms.
A brick house driveway crowded on both sides by overgrown, shapeless shrubs.
BeforeAfter

Overgrown driveway hedging, brought back to shape

The kind of tidy-up that changes how the whole front of a house reads.

How it works

Four steps, and none of them commit you to anything.

  1. STEP 1

    Text or call

A photo of the bit that is bothering you is the fastest brief there is. Send it and say roughly what you are after.

  2. STEP 2

    A free quote

Eamon comes and has a look, then tells you what it would cost and what is actually worth doing first.

  3. STEP 3

    You say what gets done

The scope is agreed before anyone starts, every visit — not decided for you once the trailer is on the driveway.

  4. STEP 4

    Regular, or just the once

Fortnightly, monthly, seasonally, or a single big tidy-up. There is nothing to sign and no lock-in either way.

Questions people ask before they call

Which suburbs do you cover?

Canberra and the ACT. If you are on the far side of town it is still worth asking — call 0422 610 282 and Eamon will tell you straight away.

Do I have to commit to a regular visit?

No. GM&M take regular and one-off jobs, and there is no contract or lock-in on either. Plenty of people start with a single clean-up and decide afterwards.

What does it cost?

Every garden is different, so jobs are quoted rather than priced off a list, and the quote is free. Their reviewers make the point better than we can: the effort gets tailored to what you actually want, without extras appearing on the bill.

When are you working?

Monday to Friday, 7am – 5pm. Weekends are family time. A text outside those hours is fine — it just gets answered the next working day.

Do you spray weeds?

No. Commercial herbicide and pesticide work in the ACT needs a separate environmental authorisation, and GM&M do not hold one. Weeding is done by hand, and a good layer of mulch does most of the ongoing work.

Can you take out a big tree?

Often not without approval first. In the ACT a tree 8m tall, 8m across, or a metre round the trunk is a regulated tree, and removal or major pruning needs ACT Government sign-off. GM&M will tell you where you stand before quoting. Hedges, shrubs and small trees are no trouble.

Right now in your garden

Early spring in Canberra

Their own advice, from their grid. What matters now, before the heat arrives.

  • A double handful of fresh woodchip mulch held over a green lawn.

    Get mulch down before summer

“Mulch acts as a barrier, helping your garden retain precious moisture on those hot, dry days.”

    GM&M, 4 February 2025

  • A small child in a beanie tipping soil from a toy bucket over a newly planted bulb.

Water at the right end of the day

“Water early in the morning or late in the evening to prevent evaporation.”

    GM&M, 16 January 2025

  • A green citrus swallowtail caterpillar resting along the stem of a lemon tree.

Watch the citrus as it warms up

“Bronze Orange Bugs are Canberra garden regulars during the warmer months. They love munching on citrus trees, damaging new growth, flowers, and fruit.”

    GM&M, 28 January 2025
